Independent lawmaker, Er. Rasheed on Friday condemned invoking Public Safety Act (PSA) against two youth of old city in J&K legislative assembly on Friday which led to a war of words with BJP lawmakers.

As soon as the assembly proceedings began, Er. Rasheed, who represents Langate constituency, got up from his seat and raised the issue of imposing PSA on the two youths. He said, “On one side, the government is not in a mood or position to take any action against army who shot down innocent Kashmiris in Rafiabad, Zachaldara and Bandipora recently. But at the same time, it wastes no time in finding baseless excuses and arguments to impose draconian PSA on innocent youth.”

“When security forces fired upon Sharifuddin Khan, son of Raj Muhammad Khan, PSA was slapped on two youths of old city as they failed to pay bribe to police to get bail,” he said. Two youth namely Haris Rashid Langoo, son of Abdul Rashid Langoo and Sajad Ahmad Geelani, son of Nazir Ahmad Geelani were arrested and booked by J&K police under PSA. Haris and Sajad were shifted to jails outside valley a couple of days ago against which people resorted to street protests in Nowhatta area on Thursday.

Er Rasheed alleged the state has failed to do justice with its people and its ‘double standard’ stands badly exposed. However he was interrupted continuously by BJP lawmakers, resulting in heated arguments.
