Seeking cancellation of the amendment made in Public Safety Act (PSA) by the governor, allowing detainees to be imprisoned outside J&K jails, AIP president and MLA Langate Er Rasheed termed the move inhuman and unfortunate.

The spokesman in a statement said that one fails to understand if from amnesty international to Human Rights organizations in India call PSA a draconian law, what could be the need and urgency to make this law more inhuman. All those being detained under public safety act are political prisoners, not criminals and their rights are being bulldozed.

Rasheed said that while in state assembly much hue and cry is being often made about the misuse of PSA, it is strange that the governor has amended the law without any consultations with the political parties and the human rights organizations, thus allowing detainees to be shifted outside J&K.

He said that rather preventing misuse of the draconian PSA, making it more anti-people is painful. Rasheed appealed governor to reconsider the amendment and rectify the ordinance so that the genuine apprehensions of masses are addressed and rights of detainees are protected.
