Reacting sharply to the outcome of crime branch probe into the killing of Tufail Mattoo, Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate Er Rashid Thursday said that while majority of Indians are praising Indian judiciary for sentencing Salman Khan to five years imprisonment but in Kashmir justice has yet again proved to be a distinct dream as usual.

Crime Branch yesterday declared the “killers of Tufail Mattoo as untraced”.

“May one ask the investigating agency, whose top brass hail from Jammu and Kashmir police that if they couldn’t trace out the culprits of Tufail Mattoo who was murdered during broad day light, by those who were supposed to protect him, how come could one believe the claims made by the same police from time to time, to have resolved very deep and suspicious criminal cases,” he said.

“Isn’t it a fact that the same police often claim to have intercepted militant’s conversations and thus claiming to have foiled major mishaps at the hands of militants from time to time? May the same police answer that if they couldn’t trace out a killer who was one among them, why should one believe their versions, claiming that killers of Late Ab Gani Lone, Moulana Mohammad Farooq, Mushtaq Lone, Gh Nabi Lone and many others including those of Sarpanchs have been traced out.”

Either the state police, he said, “have been lying by making false claims to get rewards, privileges and perks or police and other investigating agencies including crime branch are deliberately shielding and sheltering the culprits, as they belong to their own ranks.”

Er Rashid said that the decision by the crime branch to declare the killers untraced has shocked every Kashmiri and their already eroded faith in state institutions and agencies has shaken further.

“It is not only the case of Tufail Mattoo but state of India and its institutions seem never ever to be interested in delivering justice to Kashmiris, and always give the feeling as if those one lakh Kashmiris who have been martyred during last 25 years, have gone on a picnic and are expected to return soon,” he said.

“If government of India and the state govt have some respect towards the rights of Kashmiri people, then all these cases should be investigated by some internationally monitored agencies.”

Rashid reminded PDP of making “much noise” in the assembly to give justice to Tufail Mattoo’s family when in opposition.

“And now when PDP is itself in power, the party owes a big apology to Kashmiris for doing exactly the same thing what NC had been doing in its regime,” he said.
