Casual labourers Thursday kept policemen on their toes in Srinagar with their unabated protest demanding service continuation.
Since early morning, scores of casual labourers started pooling inside Srinagar’s Pratap Park to register their protest against the new dispensation. Pitching anti-government slogans, the protesters slowly built the mood for larger dissent.
As the rush started building up, the protest started getting shriller. In regular intervals, police party were making rounds in and around the park, sending signals that cops were getting ready to flex their muscles on the protesting lots.
In between, small protesting groups started pouring inside the park, and intensified the dissent.
Shortly as spillover reached to streets, police swung into action. Immediately cops started firing tear-gas canisters at protestors. With the result, chaotic scenes ensued. As police chase began, the causal labourers started dispersing.
After dispersing, the protesters regrouped in small numbers and kept police busy with chasing and canning. However, the protesters weren’t ready to call it a day.
To contain the unabated protests, police had to call extra forces. The remaining protesters were then bundled into the police van and lodged to nearby Kothi Bagh Police Station.
