National Conference (NC) while welcoming the conviction of PDP General Secretary Mohammad Dilawar Mir by CBI for a case of graft has said that the time is near when every PDP leader would face the same fate and stand exposed in front of the people for their misdeeds and corruption.
NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu has said that the conviction of PDP General Secretary by CBI was just a tip of the ice-berg and there were many more senior PDP leaders, including Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who should be investigated for their involvement in past and recent cases and scams.
“Ironically it was the same Mohammad Dilawar Mir who used to wax eloquent in issuing moralistic press statements on corruption and good-governance. What could be more damning for PDP that today the same General Secretary of their party has been convicted by CBI of graft. Today the people of J&K know what good-governance and corruption means for PDP and how the party’s senior most leaders have emerged as culprits in the court of law. We are certain that if probed properly and transparently, many more PDP leaders would be found involved in record-breaking scams and thefts of similar nature”, the NC Spokesman said.
The NC Spokesman said that everyone from PDP MP Tariq Hamid Karra to PDP’s new faces in politics – be it former Food and Supplies Officer Khursheed Alam, former bureaucrat Asgar Ali who was found involved in the Panchayat Ghar Electrification Scam or former SOG Specialist and SSP Ashiq Bukhari or Bashir Runiyal or Mehboob Iqbal who was involved in the Gulmarg Land Scam – PDP has offered nothing but the worst in this society as its faces in politics and has rubbed salt into the wounds of the people in general and the youth in particular. “There is not a single corrupt element that PDP has left untouched in the State. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has ensured that he finds all corruption specialists in J&K and makes them a part of his specialized corruption team. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and PDP leaders should know that our people take their dignity and honor very very seriously and will not allow PDP to ridicule and humiliate them in this manner”, the NC Spokesman added.
The NC Spokesman said that PDP’s MP from Srinagar, Tariq Karra had been caught red-handed in illegally swindling hundreds of kanals of custodian land in Shivpora Srinagar and had gone to the extent of trying to make dozens of families homeless by depriving them of properties that were rightfully theirs. Earlier on, the NC Spokesman added – Tariq Karra was also involved in enormous bungling’s during his tenure as a Cabinet Minsiter in Mufti Sayeed’s Government – as was brought to fore in the Kundal Committee Report. “Similar is the case with another PDP leader and candidate – Qazi Afzal – whose tenure as the Forest Minister saw rampant loot and plunder of our forests”, the NC Spokesman stated.
“When Mufti Sayeed was the Chief Minister, Asgar Ali from Kishtawar – then a bureaucrat – was found involved in the Panchayat Ghar Electrification Scam and was sacked for his corruption by none other than Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. However today the same Asgar Ali is a leader in PDP and was awarded with an MLC seat for his corruption. Is this what Mufti Mohamamd Sayeed wants to do with J&K? He should know that the youth of J&K will defeat PDP’s evil of plunging the State into the morass of corruption all over again” the NC Spokesman said.
“Then again there is the case of PDP leader Mehboob Iqbal who was found involved in the Gulmarg Land Scam during his service. Had it not been for the opposition from National Conference, PDP would have sold every inch of Gulmarg to its cronies and beneficiaries. The party’s candidate from Khanyar Khursheed Alam is involved in numerous cases of graft and corruption in the Food and Supplies Department including a case of embezzling sacks meant for rice distribution and has played a manipulative role in hijacking the demands of the employees as a union leader who later deserted them for political rehabilitation”, the NC Spokesman said.
The NC Spokesman said that the latest addition to PDP’s hall of fame in corruption and questionable track-records was formed SOG Specialist and retired SSP Ashiq Bukhari who was at the forefront of the Police response to the 2010 unrest and is known for having made a career out of torturing, hunting and tormenting hundreds of young men in the Valley. “This is the same Ashiq Bukhari who boasted of having killed 300 militants in front of a visiting Pakistani writer and diplomat. There are hundreds if not thousands of allegations of extortion against Ashiq Bukhari during his extremely questionable tenure in the Police. And today he is the new face of PDP. Is this not but rubbing salt into the wounds of our youth? Let us assure PDP that the same youth that it has humiliated by this choice will ensure PDP’s rout from politics”, the NC Spokesman further added.
