SRINAGAR: Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of Pakistan’s jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, has married Irish Australian financier Cameron O’Reilly, according to her family.
Goldsmith, 52, and O’Reilly, 62, are believed to have tied the knot at a private ceremony over the weekend. The wedding marks Goldsmith’s second marriage.
News of the wedding was shared on social media by Jemima Jones, the wife of Goldsmith’s brother Ben, who posted a picture with her husband while celebrating the occasion.
Goldsmith was married to Imran Khan, the former Pakistan cricket captain-turned-politician, for nearly nine years before the couple divorced in 2004. They have two sons, Sulaiman and Kasim.
The couple are believed to have met through their common interest in films and documentaries.
A filmmaker and producer, Goldsmith founded Instinct Productions and has worked on several films and television projects. She wrote and produced the cross-cultural romantic comedy ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It?’, directed by Shekhar Kapur.
She has also been associated with publications including The New Statesman and Vanity Fair, and has spoken publicly on human rights issues.
Goldsmith has recently been vocal about the imprisonment and health of her former husband, who is lodged in a prison in Rawalpindi. Her sons have also been campaigning for his health and seeking greater access to him.
In a social media post last month, she described Khan’s incarceration as a human rights emergency rather than merely a political issue in Pakistan.
She highlighted his long association with Britain, including his education at Oxford University, his cricket career in England and his charitable work in Pakistan.
Goldsmith also raised concerns over the difficulties faced by their sons, who are British citizens, in visiting their father.
She said the two had been forced to watch his health deteriorate from thousands of miles away and had faced difficulties obtaining visas, visiting him and maintaining regular phone contact.
The marriage comes as Goldsmith continues to remain engaged in public advocacy concerning her former husband and their children.
