Extortion gang busted in south Kashmir: Police

Police busted an extortionist gang in Dooru area of Islamabad district that were planning to orchestrate subversion on the Highway. A police statement said on Wednesday.

The statement said that a reported movement of unknown individuals along with AK 47 rifles was being noticed in Dooru area. A manhunt was launched to apprehend them. On a specific information, Islamabad Police assisted by 40 Bn. CRPF, 9 RR and officials of Police Station Dooru intercepted a vehicle and nabbed one person Mohammad Hussain Wani son of Mohammad Yousuf Wani resident of Khushipora Dialgam.

Police said, “during questioning he admitted of possessing 02 AK 47 rifles along with his associates for the purpose of extortion initially and later also subsequently carried out some militant acts.”

On his disclosures Islamabad police arrested his associates, Mohammad Rafiq Wani resident of Nathipora Dooru, Imtiyaz Ahmad Banday resident of Arabal Dooru, and Bashir Ahmad Wani resident of Damhal Khushipora.

Police said that two AK 47 riffles, two magazines and 43 rounds were later recovered from the agricultural fields of Bashir Ahmad Wani.

A case FIR No. 56/2013 under section 7/25 A. Act, 457,506 RPC 120B was registered in police station Dooru. During further investigation it was revealed that Mohammad Rafiq Wani, and Imtiyaz Ahmad Banday were planning to execute a firing incident on Highway between Qazigund and Mirbazar.

According to police this whole module was being organized and handled by one Nawaz Ahmad Ahanger resident of Achabal who was a close associate of LeT Commander Ashraf Molvi of Rampora and Moosa alias Qari Banihal. Nawaz Ahmad Ahanger along with one associate Mohammad Younis Bhat S/O Mohammad Yousuf Bhat R/O Hardpora Achabal Islamabad arranged the weapon in 2010 to deliver it to Moosa but later, upon the killing of Ashraf Sheikh Alias Molvi they could not execute their plans.
