Expressing serious concern over the recent statement of Police regarding the case of Zahid Iqbal that his death occurred due to drowning, Zahid’s family Friday claimed that he was first ‘murdered and then thrown in Jehlum’.

Talking to a local news agency, KNS, Zahid Iqbal’s Father Mohammad Iqbal accused that the police investigation into the matter were deliberately ‘delayed’ and that there are many ‘loopholes’ in the police statement.

Mohammad Iqbal who is also the member of Welfare committee Padshahi Bagh today said that Zahid disappeared on August 23 2013 and his body was fished out from Jehlum river on August 27. He told KNS that there were ‘torture’ marks on Zahid’s body which proves that he was murdered and then thrown in the river.

Padshahi Bagh welfare committee further claimed that the statement issued recently by the police mentions the cause of death due to drowning but the locality is aware of the fact that Zahid never used to go near the river as he didn’t  know how to swim. “Police claims that the wrist watch and cell phone of Zahid was recovered from one person namely Ruhail but reality is that his possessions were with two persons.”

While appealing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Police Chief and the concerned authorities to take the cognizance of the matter, the welfare committee mentioned that it will very soon reveal the vital facts about the case before the press.
