SRINAGAR: A family from the Kunan area of Kupwara district Wednesday protested at Srinagar’s Press Enclave seeking LG Manoj Sinha’s intervention to get their son, Abdul Rashid Dar, released who has been allegedly picked up by the Army on December 15 from their home.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said they are in reciept of a complaint and are investigating the case.
Dar’s protesting mother said that while the family was having dinner on December 15, the Army raided their house and detained her son without any “reason.”
“The army didn’t state the reason for detaining him. I tried to plead with them that my son was innocent, but they snatched him away from me,” the mother said. “The Army officer assured me that he will be out soon. The officer whisked him away in his vehicle after promising me that he will hand back my child at 10 am the next morning.”
As per the family, when Dar’s mother went to the camp on December 16, the next day, she was asked to come at 4 pm as some questioning was going on.
“When I returned to the camp at 4 pm, some Army men told me that my son had escaped from custody,” she said.
The family went to the local police station to complain about the entire issue.
The family appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter so that Dar is traced and released.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara Yougal Manhas said that the army has given in writing to the police that Dar escaped from their custody.
“The family has also lodged a missing complaint. We got some clues and have formed teams. We are investigating the matter,” SSP Manhas said.
Defence Spokesperson in Srinagar Colonel Emron Musavi said that he is out of town and is getting the details which would be shared as soon as received. “I have received various queries on this. I am getting the details.”
The story would be updated when more details are received.
