SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Monday said the party is working on a new roadmap to strengthen its organisation in Srinagar after a meeting with the party’s legislators, office-bearers and workers to assess its functioning.
Abdullah said he met eight MLAs from Srinagar, along with district and block presidents and party workers, during the meeting, which focused on organisational functioning and shortcomings.
He said the issues identified during the discussions would be addressed through a new roadmap, which would be placed before the party’s working committee for approval before implementation.
“We discussed what are the shortcomings and how we can overcome them. A new roadmap will be presented and after it is passed in the working committee, work will start on it,” Abdullah told reporters.
On the Supreme Court taking note of a plea concerning the functioning of the Election Commission, Abdullah welcomed the court’s intervention.
He said the court had taken notice of allegations that the Chief Election Commissioner had taken decisions without the approval of the other two Election Commissioners.
“I am very happy that the Supreme Court has taken notice of it. We hope it will look into it and correct the mistakes they have made,” he said.
Reacting to a statement by the West Bengal BJP on implementing the Uniform Civil Code within six months, Abdullah said political parties could announce plans to implement various measures, but added that the ultimate course of events was not in their hands.
“They will talk about implementing many things, but they have no idea what Almighty Allah is going to implement,” he said.
