According to a aprty statement, earlier in the day, Mr Rather conducted a daylong road show to seek massive mandate for Dr Farooq Abdullah, who is the NC -Congress alliance candidate for Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary Constituency . Besides NC workers, senior citizens of the Chrar-i-Sharif town took part in the road show.
Addressing wayside public gatherings, Mr Rather sought mandate for Dr Farooq Abdullah on the basis of report card of the NC-Congress coalition Govt. headed by chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Describing the era of present govt. a golden period of development &prosperity in the State in State, Mr. Rather said that big strides have been made in every sector of life. He asked the people to vote for Dr Farooq on the basis of report card adding that people should not get swayed by propaganda &hollow sloganeering of PDP He said this party thrives on falsehood & deceit only. He also urged the need to defeat communal parties like BJP& its radical allies who want to divide the country on the basis of religion, caste, colour and creed.
Mr. Rather said while the opposition party PDP for short term electoral benefits has forgotten all ethics of the democracy and is desperately trying to hoodwink people by deceptive tactics, the election manifesto of BJP has threatened the peaceful co-existence of various ethnic identities. The manifesto has exposed its evil intentions visa-vis minority communities. He said if communal forces succeed to grab power at national level, the minorities will always feel themselves insecure and unsafe. He said BJP’s Prime Ministerial Candidate Narender Modi carries a stigma as Chief Minister of Gujarat he has failed to protect the life and properties of thousands of Muslims in 2002 Godra communal riots. He cautioned that BJP and its allies VHP, Bajrangdal, RSS, Shivsena have joined their hands against secular forces in the country adding that need of the hour was to defeat communal forces unitedly.
Castigating BJP and its radical allies for their inflammatory hate speeches against minorities for short term political benefits, Mr. Rather cautioned that the country cannot thrive without communal harmony and brotherhood. He warned that for the first time, in the history, the country is facing serious threat at the hands of communal and radical forces who want to gag the voice of minorities by creating fear psychosis. “Earlier their communal agenda was hidden but this time they have, with utter disregard to the sentiments of minorities, brazenly resorted to communalize the society to capture the power.”Mr Rather added.
