A day after elections were conducted in South Kashmir amid violent clashes and protests, at least 23 village heads declared their resignations in South Kashmir’s Kulgam town on Friday.

According to CNS, in Bugam area of Kulgam at least 14 village heads including two Sarpanchs, two deputy sarpanchas and 10 Panchas announced their resignation in a local Masjid during Friday congregational prayers. Their names were read by the local Imam through public address system.

Those village heads who resigned from Bugam Kulgam ward were identified as Sarpanchs, Wali Muhammad Koka and Muhammad Masood Shiekh, Deputy Sarpanchs Murshid Lone and Abbas Lone, Panchas Maqbool Bhat, Afrooza Akhtar, Mubarak Koka, Jamshed Hajam, Fareeda Akhtar, Rehana Banoo, Rashid Mir, Shabir Lone Mehbooba Akhtar and Ghulam Rasool Khan.

Reports said that 7 village heads who resigned from Sonigam Kulam included  Sarpanch Abbas Bhat, Deputy Sarpanch Ibraheem Parrey and Panchas Haseena Ayoub, Naseema Reyaz, Mudasir Parrey and Muhammad Shafi.

A Panch from Chhatargam Tral namely Rajindar Singh and another Deputy Sarpanch from Naboog Kund Qazigund Khurshid Ahmed Wani also tendered their resignation on Friday.
