SRINAGAR: A family in North Kashmir’s Sopore, has raised allegations of murder following the discovery of their son’s body under suspicious circumstances in the local orchards. Concurrently, the police have commenced an investigation into the incident.

The body was found in Duroo orchards on Wednesday morning under circumstances shrouded in mystery. Subsequently, it was transported to the Sub District Hospital in Sopore for further examination.

Following legal-medico formalities, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites, officials said. They added that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The deceased has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, from Duroo Sopore.

Mir, who leaves behind five children—three daughters and two sons—went missing on Tuesday evening, prompting the family to inform the police and initiate a search operation, said the deceased’s brother Mohammed Rafi.

Rafi stated, “Those who killed him are not humans but beasts and they should be brought to justice.”

Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Sopore, Divya D (IPS), speaking to reporters, stated that they received a missing complaint from the family, prompting them to form multiple search teams led by SDPO Sopore, SHO Sopore, and DO Warpora.

Divya mentioned, “The searches continued throughout the night, and the body was discovered this morning near the deceased’s home.” She added that the deceased had suffered multiple head injuries.

“During the investigation, two suspects were detained for questioning and are currently in custody,” SP stated, adding, “We did not find any terror angle in this case, but it appears to be more of a personal matter during preliminary investigations. We are actively pursuing it, and investigations are ongoing,” Divya said—(KNO)
