SRINAGAR: The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) on Monday expressed regret over the massive fire that engulfed M/s Farooq Wooden Furniture, a prominent industrial unit located at Kanlibagh, Baba Reshi Road in Baramulla district on Sunday night. Five residential houses were also gutted in the fire mishap.

The spokesperson in a statement said that the estimated loss in the property has been reported to be of a value of more than Rs 250 Lakhs. The industrial unit was considered to be one of the leading furniture units in Baramulla that employed more than 50 employees.

“A delegation of FCIK led by its President Shahid Kamili today visited the affected unit at Baramullah and took stock of the damage. Former President Zahoor Bhat, President I/E Sopore Javaid Ahmad Bhat, President I/E Baramullah Haji M Ashraf Khan, President Unorganised sector Baramullah Imran Amir and others accompanied President FCIK,” reads the statement.

On behalf of the apex organization, President FCIK expressed heartfelt sympathies and assured the unit’s promoters, Farooq Ahmad and his brother, of unwavering support during this critical time. FCIK is committed to assisting in the rehabilitation of the unit.

Meanwhile, FCIK has formally taken up the issue of rehabilitation of the affected unit with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and has requested possible government support in the interest of saving the industrial unit and the employment it generated for more than 50 persons.
