Fear persists among the locals in Bilalabad, Garkote villages of Uri town in Baramulla district, after wild animals including a bear and two leopards were sighted yesterday. The wild animals were spotted near Bilalabad nursery.

As soon as the news about the wild animals spread in the area, fear gripped the entire village. The locals are hesitant to venture out. “We are afraid of sending our children out for tuitions,” a local said.

According to reports, the bear had yesterday attacked a local lady, Zareefa Begum who was saved by her husband after he attacked the bear with an axe. Zareefa has received minor injuries.

The locals allege that despite contacting the wildlife authorities, they have not come forward to help.

While talking to Kashmir Life, Wildlife range officer Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmad, ensured that he will shortly be sending a team to capture the wild animals.

“We will shortly send a team to take care of the wild animals,” he told Kashmir Life.
