Srinagar

The girl students of the University of Kashmir on Monday staged a protest demonstration at the university campus in Hazratbal Srinagar, against the south Kashmir killings.

According to sources, the hostellers from Rabia Basri and Qurat ul Ain Haider, (RA), hostels marched towards the university campus shouting anti-governmental, anti-administration and pro-freedom slogans and assembled in university premises.

Reports said that students were locked up till J&K Science Congress (2018) programme was finished. “Fearing the protests, our both the hostels were locked up,” said a girl student wishing anonymity.

Students said that holding a programme on today was not a great decision taken by authorities, adding that huge numbers of government forces were also deployed inside the campus.

Earlier, the male students of the varsity assembled outside the convocation complex where Governor N N Vohra was present as chief guest.

Students also offered funeral in absentia for the slain militants and civilians killed in Shopian on April 1, 2018.
