Fierce encounter on at Kuthua village after militant strike

Unidentified gunmen wearing Army uniforms fired at a private vehicle in Kathua district on Friday, killing one and injuring three others.

Police said that the suspected militants, who had fled in the same vehicle, have been intercepted by the Army and firing is underway at Kalibari-Janglote area in Kathua district between militants and the forces.

Police sources said that the unidentified gunmen stopped a Mahindra Balero vehicle at Dayala Chak in Kathua district on the Jammu-Pathankote highway at around 4.30 am on Friday.

After killing one and injuring other three they hijacked the vehicle. The gunmen, reportedly three to four in number, later attacked an Army camp near Janglote in the same district where a gunfight has started between them and security personnel, police sources said.

Dayala Chak, 55 km from Jammu on the Jammu-Pathankote highway, falls under the jurisdiction of Hira Nagar police station in Kathua district which was attacked by militants on September 26, 2013.

Eleven people including  five policemen, a civilian, two Army men, including a major, and three militants were killed in the 2013 attack.

 After attacking the Hira Nagar police station, the militants had entered an Army camp on the Pathankote-Jammu highway near Samba town and killed a major and a soldier.
