Identified as Shankar Kurade of adjoining Pimpri-Chinchwad town, he reportedly got the mask made costing around Rs 2.90 lakh.

As pictures of him went viral on social media, Jammu & Kashmir’s former chief minister Omar Abdullah reacted. “This is what you do when you have more money than sense,” Omar wrote on Twitter.
Not sure about the safety status of the mask, a connoisseur of the yellow metal has admitted that it had minute holes to breathe and was comfortable to wear.

As per the reports, the mask is made of thin gold leaf, along with golden threads to tie it. A rough estimate suggests that the cost is almost equivalent to the cost of over 1,75,000 ordinary disposable masks or more than 700 PPEs in the market.
