SRINAGAR: A commercial-cum-residential building was damaged in an overnight fire incident in the Batergam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Friday.
According to officials, the fire broke out late on Thursday evening. A team from the police and Fire and Emergency Services responded promptly and managed to bring the blaze under control. One fireman, identified as Abdul Qayoom, sustained minor injuries during the rescue operation.
The affected structure was a double-storeyed building with seven hardware shops on the ground floor, four residential rooms and two hardware shops on the first floor. In addition, a single-storey building housing a bedding manufacturing unit with two rooms and a single-storey shopping line comprising three shops were also impacted by the fire.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and is currently under police investigation. (GNS)
