SRINAGAR: A fire broke out in the densely populated Pamposh Colony area of Noorbagh in Srinagar late Tuesday evening, damaging multiple residential houses, officials said.
An official from the Fire and Emergency Services Department said that the fire call was received at 10:35 PM, following which the first response team and headquarters unit were dispatched within a minute. Additional reinforcements were also rushed to the site due to the intensity of the blaze.
“Initial inputs suggest that three to four residential houses have been affected. Firefighting operations are in progress,” the official added.
Eyewitnesses from the locality described scenes of panic, saying the congested layout of the neighbourhood was contributing to the rapid spread of the fire. “The flames are spreading quickly, and the fire trucks are struggling to manoeuvre through the narrow lanes,” said one resident.
The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage were yet to be determined when this report was filed. (KNO)
