SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has directed the Anantnag district administration to provide immediate relief to the victims of the devastating fire in Kadipora, Anantnag, from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Disaster Management Relief Fund, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, informed the House on Saturday.
Briefing the Assembly on the relief efforts, the Minister said she visited the affected site on the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accompanied by MLAs Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Abdul Majeed Larmi, and Altaf Ahmad Wani, to assess the extent of damage and ongoing aid measures.
“The government is committed to the long-term rehabilitation of the affected families and has instructed the district administration to expedite the process,” Itoo said. She assured that immediate relief, including temporary shelter, food supplies, and financial assistance, was being provided to the victims.
She further informed the House that the administration had been directed to conduct a comprehensive assessment of damages to ensure swift compensation. Additionally, timber will be provided to affected families on a priority basis for reconstruction efforts.
The Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, had asked the Minister to brief the House following her visit to the fire-affected site. The issue was earlier raised in the Assembly by Legislator Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, prompting discussions on relief measures.
