At least one person was killed and more than a dozen civilians were injured when Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel opened firing on a protesting mob in Dadam village of Gole Tehsil, district Ramban, early Thursday.

According to reports the BFS personnel of a local camp opened firing Thursday morning to disperse a huge procession which was taken out to protest against an alleged sacrilege issue and beating of a local religious person, Qari Shabir Wednesday late evening.

A large number of people had gathered in Dadam, today to protest against the alleged issue of sacrilege and beating of Qari.

The people started marching towards a local BSF camp alleging that the BSF men were involved in the last evening incident.

 The locals called Kashmir Life on phone informing that as soon as the BSF men saw the protesting people, they opened fire resulting in the death of a government lecturer, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Shan, a resident of Jamman, Gole.

They said that Manzoor was hit by many bullets and he died on spot. Manzoor, according to locals belonged to a political family. He was the brother of a local PDP leader. His sister has unsuccessfully contested the last two assembly elections.

KL called a number of the police officers of the area including the SHO Gole, Safdar Shah, but nobody was ready to comment on the incident, nor any body confirmed the death of a civilian or desecration of Quran and beating of Qari.

Sources said that many people were injured in the BSF firing incident who were shifted to district hospital Ramban.

KL repeatedly tried to contact the SSP Ramban, Javed Ahmad Matto but despite repeated efforts he did not respond.
