The first death in the earth shaking earthquake was reported from a Kishtwar village. An elderly villager, identified as Gusavun Ram, was killed when a bolder hit him while he was rushing out of his home. In another incident two school kids and one of their teachers were seriously injured in Putinag village of district Kistwar.

Informed sources in the government told Kashmir Life that the earth quake which jolted the Chinab Valley at around 12:27 on Wednesday has resulted in one death and injuries to a more than a dozen people mostly school children till the reports last came in.

According to a local advocate seven school children were injured in Kahara village of Kishtwar in stampede when during panic due to the earthquake.

The parents were worried about their kids so everybody was seen rushing towards the schools. The people in the government offices and commercial areas left in hurry resulting in a severe traffic jam in Doda, Bhaderaw and Kistwar towns.

Hundreds of buildings in Chenab valley suffered damage as an earthquake hit the belt somewhere on the border between Himachal Pardesh and J&K. The Epi-centre of the quake was somewhere around Bhaderwah.

Earthquake triggered landslides which led to blocking of Kishtwar-Marmat road.

The earthquake was measured 5.8 on rector scale and it lasted for 10 seconds.

Reports reaching here said the intensity of the earthquake was so huge that people fled out of their homes. Reports suggest that a number of houses were damaged in certain areas. The losses are reported from Kishtwar, Bhaderwah and Doda.
