SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have sealed five medical shops in the Narbal area during a joint inspection drive conducted to curb the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs and enforce regulatory compliance.
The operation was carried out under an ongoing anti-drug enforcement campaign, with joint teams comprising officials from multiple police units and the Drug Control Department inspecting pharmacy outlets across various locations, including remote areas of the district.
During the inspections, officials examined stock registers, sale and purchase records, valid licences, and other mandatory documentation maintained by pharmacy operators.
Authorities said five medical shops in Narbal were sealed by the Drug Inspector in the presence of the Incharge Police Post Narbal for alleged violations, including the absence of mandatory CCTV installations and non-compliance with other regulatory requirements.
The drive was aimed at detecting irregularities and preventing the illegal sale and misuse of medicines, particularly controlled and prescription drugs often associated with substance abuse.
Officials instructed pharmacy owners to strictly follow prescribed norms and maintain proper records as required under law.
Police said such joint enforcement drives will continue to ensure accountability, promote lawful business practices, and safeguard public health.
