SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Saturday termed the controversy over the FIR registered against PDP leader Iltija Mufti a “fixed match”, alleging that the Peoples Democratic Party was seeking to divert attention from remarks made by its president Mehbooba Mufti at Jantar Mantar.
Itoo said the issue of the FIR against Iltija Mufti was being highlighted to shift the focus from Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks during the protest in Delhi, according to reports.
The statement came amid a political dispute over the FIR registered against Iltija Mufti following a PDP demonstration against the abrogation of Article 370. Police have alleged that she assaulted a police officer during the protest, while Iltija has rejected the allegation and claimed that she was manhandled by police personnel.
The controversy also follows remarks made by Mehbooba Mufti at Jantar Mantar, for which she later apologised amid criticism.
The FIR and differing accounts of the alleged incident have intensified the political confrontation between the ruling National Conference and the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir.
