A residential house was partially damaged and paddy fields over hectares were filled with the water after a cloudburst hit Naristan and Gutroo areas of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.

Reports said that a flash flood hit the twin villages of Tral on Tuesday night resulting in damage to a residential house and hectares of paddy fields. A road in Airipal village was also damaged by the flood water.

An official from the police station Tral said that no such thing has happened in the area. “Flash flood has occurred in the area, but we have not received any reports of damage from the area,” he said.

Later in a day, District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Ghulam Mohammad Dar, visited the affected areas of the Tral town. The cloudburst had affected upper areas triggering flood and damage to agricultural fields, electricity poles, culverts, water supply pipes and protection bunds.

The DDC was accompanied by ADC Tral, ACD Pulwama Tehsildar Aripal , Tral ,SE R&B and other officers from the district administration.

During the visit, DDC Pulwama took stock of the damage caused by the flash-floods. The locals apprised him about the large-scale devastation caused due to flash-floods in the area. He inspected the nallah where from the water had spilled over to the village and caused damage.

On the occasion, locals apprised the DDC of their problems and demanded the construction of concrete protection bund and diversion on the particular Nallah.

The DDC directed the concerned officers for the formulation of estimates and assured the people that their genuine demand will be redressed on priority.
