The residents of Karnah Tanghdar on Thursday held a sit-in protest in north Kashmir’s Tanghdar area over the disposal of debris.

According to an official, hundreds of people assembled at main chowk Tanghdar shouting slogans demanded not to dump the debris in Nallah. They said that the debris should be transported to some other places outside the market, as this can be a cause of many problems later.

Earlier, multiple cloudbursts struck at Shamsbari Mountain amid the heavy rains in the region which triggered flash floods in several villages of Tanghdar. The affected villages include Nachayian, Hajinad, Bagh Baila, Gumul, and Tanghdar.

Flash floods in Tanghdar

During the flash floods, scores of shops, two army oil tanker vehicles along with many oil barrels were washed away. A behak (makeshift house for summers) near the Shamsbari mountain was also washed away. Till now two bodies were also recovered from the area.

On August 14, flash floods had also entered the army camp, residential houses and in schools. A canal of a local power project at Pingla Hari Dawal was also damaged in a separate incident of flash floods.
