SRINAGAR: During the inspections, some products were found to be out of date and were voluntarily destroyed by the Food Business Operators (FBOs) on the spot, as the Food Safety Department intensified market checking in Srinagar under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat.
The inspection drive, led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Yameen ul Nabi, covered multiple localities in Srinagar including Safa Kadal, Sakedafar, Nawakadal, Rajori Kadal, Nowhatta and adjoining areas. The team focused primarily on bakery outlets.
Officials stated that the aim of the ongoing market surveillance is to uphold stringent food safety and hygiene standards across all retail and manufacturing points in the district. The Department is keeping a close watch on the quality of food products being sold to consumers, particularly in the run-up to the festive season.
Food Business Operators were instructed to strictly follow food safety norms and proper storage protocols. The Department has warned that any violations or compromise in food quality or handling practices will attract strict action under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
