Members of Footpath Association Kashmir held a protest demonstration near Clock Tower Lal Chowk against government’s move disallowing them to use footpaths.

The protesters held banners and raised slogans. “We were asked by Alftaf Bukhari sahib to vacate the footpaths for some time until the assembly session ends,” said the spokesperson. “We agreed to his demands but when we started re-use the footpaths, police came and drove us away.”

He said that many unemployed youth have been earning a living and government was taking away their livelihood. He said that Bukhari had promised them a separate land near Police station Batamaloo. “He told us that it will take him Rs 16 crore to raise the land for us. He asked us three days’ time,” protesters said. “But today when we went to his office, he told us bluntly that it will take him more time and they must talk to Mehbooba Ji.”

The protesters demanded early availability of ‘promised land’. “Or else we must be allowed to sit at footpath. Where else will we go,” they added.
