In a bizarre incident, CRPF men deployed near Lethpora stopped and checked buses of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST). The buses were on way to IUST carrying both male and female students. “It is nothing short of harassment by CRPF. We told them that these are university buses but they didn’t listen,” said one of the students whose bus was stopped and checked.

“In the morning, when we were moving towards the university from Srinagar, a posse of CRPF men stopped our buses, boarded and asked us to show them our bags,” said Faheem, a student who was frisked.

The students also alleged that some of them were made to come out of the buses and were frisked outside.

The CRPF men also searched bags of female students. “When we tried to intervene they threatened us and ordered us to shut up,” said a student over phone.

Later, students contacted Vice-Chancellor of the university who promised that “he will take up the matter with the concerned authorities.”

Another student who was aghast over this incident told Kashmir Life, “in the name of security they cannot harass students like this.”

Also, video of the incident went viral on the social networking sites where the CRPF man with a bamboo stick in his hand, is seen asking students to show him their bags. In the video, a female student is heard saying that forces are alleging them of carrying bombs and ammunition in their bags instead of books.
