Forest Guard Attacked While On Duty In Poonch, Deptt Seeks FIR Against Two

   

SRINAGAR :The Forest Department has sought registration of an FIR against two persons for allegedly attacking a Beat Guard while he was performing official duty in Poonch district.

In a communication to the Station House Officer, Police Station Poonch, the Forest Range Officer, Haveli, Poonch, stated that on Sunday, September 06, during the extraction of departmental firewood at Banwat from Compartment No. 182/H of Beat Poonch, Forest Block Poonch, for cremation purposes, two persons allegedly attacked Beat Guard Poonch, Mohd Shabir.

The two persons have been identified as Abdul Majid, son of Aziza, a resident of Banwat, and Mohd Aftab, son of Fazal Hussain, also a resident of Banwat.

According to the communication, the Beat Guard sustained multiple injuries, as was evident from a video, while his uniform was also torn during the alleged assault.

It further stated that other officials present at the spot tried to explain to the people about the departmental extraction of firewood, but the accused allegedly attacked the Beat Guard and other officials who were performing their duties.

The Forest Range Officer has requested police to take action against the accused under relevant provisions of law, citing allegations including attempt to murder, assault during official duty, manhandling, misbehaviour and life-threatening acts.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the matter. (GNS)
