SRINAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a forest guard in the Billawar area of Kathua district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a complainant.
An official statement reads that a case was registered by the CBI on March 20, 2025, against the accused on allegations that he demanded a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a complainant in exchange for allowing him to execute the construction and repair of a road, and for the release of a JCB that the accused had allegedly seized.
The statement further reads that the CBI laid a trap and caught the forest guard red-handed while accepting the bribe.
“The accused was arrested and produced before the court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu, on March 21, 2025. He was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days,” it added.
The CBI also conducted a search at the residence of the accused in the Billawar area of Kathua, leading to the recovery of some incriminating documents. The investigation is ongoing. (KNO)
