Former BDC Chairman Held with Heroin in JK’s Rajouri: Police

   

SRINAGAR: A former Block Development Council (BDC) chairman has been arrested with 10 grams of heroin in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The accused, Vikas Kumar Sharma, a resident of Thill Hakima village in the Nowshera sector, was intercepted by police while travelling in his private vehicle from Lamberi to Bagnoti on Saturday evening, reports appearing in the media said.

According to a police official quoted in the reports, Sharma attempted to flee upon spotting the police team but was quickly apprehended. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the narcotic substance.

A case has been registered at the Nowshera police station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police also revealed that Sharma has a history of criminal involvement, with three FIRs registered against him between 2006 and 2020.

Sharma was elected as a sarpanch in November 2018 and later resigned from that post after winning the BDC elections in September 2019.
