SRINAGAR: Former Forest Minister and former Member of the Legislative Assembly from Devsar, Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah, died in Jammu on Friday afternoon following a prolonged illness. He had been under medical care for some time and passed away in the city.

A prominent political leader from the Devsar constituency, Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah was known for his engagement with the public and his role in social and political matters in the region. During his tenure as MLA, he undertook several developmental works and addressed key public welfare concerns in his constituency. As Forest Minister, he was associated with initiatives related to forest conservation, environmental safeguards and administrative measures within the department.
He was the uncle of the sitting Devsar MLA, Peerzada Feroze Ahmad Shah.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Chief Minister, Jammu and Kashmir, in a post on X, expressed deep grief over his demise. The Chief Minister remembered his service in public life and contributions to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
