Former MLA and senior National Conference leader Rachhpal Singh died on Monday morning due to COVID-19, officials said.
However, other details about Singh, the former MLA Kalakote Rajouri district, like his exact age and medical history were not immediately known.
“Early this morning I lost my senior colleague & former MLA of Kalakote iRajouri) Kr Rachhpal Singh to COVID-19. Only yesterday I spoke to him to wish him well. He was on oxygen support but in good spirits. Less than 24 hours later he is no more. My prayers are with his family,” former chief minister and NC leader Omar Abdullah tweeted.
Singh is the second NC leader to die of COVID-19. Earlier, Jammu district youth president Rohit Kirni succumbed to the virus.
