Srinagar: At least four persons lost their lives, while eight others were injured in a tragic accident Thursday morning, when an overloaded Xylo vehicle near Chajjarkotli in Udhampur district of Jammu region, skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge.
The overloaded vehicle, which according to eyewitnesses was carrying 14 passengers, against the allowed number of 9, was going towards Ramban from Jammu when the driver of the vehicle lost the control of the vehicle and rolled down into hundreds of meters deep gorge.
Police sources said that the accident resulted in on spot death of four passengers, while eight others were seriously injured. Among the four dead, one is said to be an army man, two from Bihar, while the identity of the fourth was being ascertained.
All the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the dead bodies of the deceased were sent for medico-legal formalities.
Police, after registering a case in connection with the accident has started an investigation regarding the incident. (CNS)
