SRINAGAR: Four persons died and 17 others were injured after a tempo traveller skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in the Ponda area along the Doda–Barath road on Tuesday morning.
“The vehicle, bearing registration number JK06-4847, veered off the mountainous road and plunged into the gorge, prompting a rescue operation. We have recovered four bodies from the spot and shifted 17 injured persons to hospital for treatment,” said an official.
The officer added that the rescue operation was continuing and that an investigation had been initiated to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Authorities, including local police, SDRF teams, and volunteers, were pressed into service for rescue and evacuation.
The condition of some of the injured is reported to be critical. Cognisance has been taken, and further investigation is underway. (JKNS)
