SRINAGAR: Police on Monday have arrested four alleged drug peddlers in Shopian, Kulgam, and Budgam, recovering contraband substances from their possession.
In Shopian, a police team from Police Station Shopian intercepted a motorcycle at a checkpoint near Nagesharan crossing. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of charas powder concealed in the first-aid tool kit. The suspects were identified as Mohammad Lateef Malik, son of Mohammad Yousuf from Bongam, Shopian, and Tauseef Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Wagey from New Colony, Largam.
In Kulgam, a police team from Police Station Qaimoh apprehended a suspicious individual at a checkpoint near Khudwani Bypass. A search of his bag yielded 2.5 kilograms of cannabis husk-like substance. The accused was identified as Mohd Amin Bhat, son of Mohd Abdullah Bhat from Shamsipora, Bijbhara.
Similarly, in Budgam, a police team from Police Station Beerwah intercepted a suspect near Rankipora. The individual attempted to flee but was caught. He was identified as Mohammad Saleem Shah, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Shah from Pati Sail Beerwah.
All four suspects have been taken into custody, and cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered against them at their respective police stations. Further investigation is underway.
