In a first, four Kashmiri boys brought laurels to the stat after winning five medals in Fin Swimming National championship held at AIM Sports Academy Palwal, Haryana on June 13, and 14, 2019.
It was for the first time that players from J&K had participated in the Nationals organized by Water Sports Association of India. Out of nine participants-all Kashmiri, four of them have bagged Gold, Silver and bronze medals in the event.
In 50meters under-nineteen boys, Mahir Tariq was conferred by Gold Medal while as Faiez Beigh got Silver Medal.
In 100mts under-nineteen, Mahir Tariq again received bronze while as Zeeshan Mushtaq in senior men category got Gold Medal in 100mts and Shajar Lateef got Bronze in senior men’s 50 meters.
Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmiri’s Water Sports Association had selected nine players to represent the state in Fin-Swimming National Championship. After a series of trails and training held at Nigeen Club, nine players were selected from JK for Nationals.
The nine participants who participated in the event include Mahir Tariq, Faiez Beigh, Zeeshan Mushtaq, Omer Tariq, Salik Mir, Shajar Lateef, Mohammad Eisa, Mohammad Ibrahim and Hamid Munshi. They had trained themselves under the mentorship of Riyaz Wani.
