The Philippine Air Force said in a statement that the accident involved two SF-260 aircraft at Fernando Air Base. Video footage of the incident showed the planes colliding mid-air before crashing within the air base grounds.

No other casualties were reported, Reuters reported.

The air force has temporarily grounded its fleet of SF-260 trainer aircraft while an investigation is conducted to establish the cause of the crash.

The incident follows another fatal accident involving the same aircraft type in May, when two pilots died after an SF-260 crashed in a mountainous area in the northern Philippines.

In 2023, another SF-260 TP Marchetti aircraft crashed during a training flight, killing two pilots.
