SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Jammu has filed a chargesheet against a health department employee accused of securing a government job as a dental assistant using an allegedly forged Class 10 certificate nearly two decades ago.
The chargesheet names Sohan Lal Singh and his deceased father, Veer Singh, and was submitted before the court of the Fourth Additional Munsiff, Jammu, in a case registered last year, a Crime Branch spokesperson said on Saturday.
The investigation began after the Crime Branch received a communication from the CID Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that Singh had been working as a dental assistant at the Primary Health Centre in Arnia, Jammu, on the strength of a fraudulent matriculation certificate purportedly issued in Bihar or Uttar Pradesh.
According to the spokesperson, the investigation found that Singh had passed Class 8 but had not cleared the Class 10 examination through his school.
A forensic examination conducted by the Forensic Science Laboratory in Jammu detected erasures and chemical alterations in the mark sheet. School records also revealed discrepancies in his date of birth, the spokesperson said.
Investigators further found that Singh’s father, who worked as a driver in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, had allegedly arranged forged documents for his minor son. The documents were subsequently used to establish Singh’s eligibility for dental assistant training and secure his appointment through the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board, the spokesperson said.
The Crime Branch said the evidence collected during the investigation established offences under various provisions of law against the accused.
The chargesheet has been submitted to the court for judicial determination, the spokesperson added.
