Senior National Conference leader Haji Peer Abdul Gani Shah (Veeri) passed away after brief illness, family sources said.

Father of MLC and National Conference leader Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Gani Veeri was former minister and four time legislator.

Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed  expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise. Paying rich tributes to the deceased leader, Mufti Sayeed said he was always connected at the grassroots level and worked tirelessly for up-liftment of downtrodden and weaker sections of the society.

Expressing solidarity with Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Mufti conveyed sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah besides senior Party leaders, Legislators and office bearers have also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that in Veeri’s demise the party had lost a veteran voice and guiding figure whose absence would be missed for years and years to come.

“In Veeri Sahab’s demise National Conference has lost a towering ideologue and leader who has mentored and guided numerous current party leaders and functionaries. The fact that he was elected four times as a legislator is a testament to his popularity, social and public service and leadership. I convey my heartfelt condolences with Veeri Sahab’s family and especially his son and NC Leader Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri. May the departed soul rest in peace”, Omar said.

A high-level NC delegation led by Kamal and Wani participated in the Nimaaz-e-Jinazah of late Veeri and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

The council of ministers has also condoled the demise of veteran politician.
