SRINAGAR: PDP MLA Waheed Para on Tuesday raised concerns in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly over frequent stoppages of commuters on the national highway in south Kashmir, saying the practice was causing inconvenience to the public.
Speaking during the ongoing autumn session of the Assembly, Para said commuters were being stopped on a daily basis for several minutes while travelling along the highway.
“People are stopped every day for 10 to 15 minutes,” he said.
Para urged the government to take up the matter with the Unified Headquarters, saying repeated stoppages were creating a sense of discrimination among ordinary people.
“Travelling on the national highway in south Kashmir gives a sense of discrimination to common people. The government should take up the matter with the Unified High Command,” he said.
He also said security measures taken following an incident should not result in ordinary people being humiliated or subjected to unnecessary inconvenience.
“Just one attack cannot give a sense of discrimination and humiliate the common people of Kashmir,” the PDP legislator said.
His remarks came as members of the Assembly raised issues related to public inconvenience and security-related restrictions during the ongoing session.
