In a fresh gun battle at Keran Sector near Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a trooper was injured critically.

Official sources told a local news agency, GNS, that Army’s 3/3 GR along with reinforcement of 15 RR, 16 GR and 5 ASSAM launched a fresh joint combing operation to nab the hiding militants inside the forest area of Shalbhutoo, who according to sources managed to sneak into this side last week. As such, the joint team of forces intensified the combing operation near the Shalbhutoo forest area. “The hiding militants opened indiscriminate firing upon them ensuing a fresh gun battle.”

“During the initial gunfight, a rifleman Kiran Gurang of 15 RR received two bullets on his neck and back side,” sources said, adding the injured trooper was immediately airlifted to 92 Base Hospital here in Srinagar in critical condition.

Pertinently, the fresh gun battle started a day after 6-day long operation that started on September 24 in Keran Sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district came to end.
