Fresh snowfall amid rains draped valley disrupting vehicular traffic across Jammu and Kashmir.

The continuous dry spell in valley had triggered various diseases detrimental for horticulture and agriculture as well.

According to the Metrological Department Kashmir, famous tourist destination Pahalgam received snowfall of 8 cms and rainfall of 6mm, frontier district of Kupwara received snowfall of 1 cm and rainfall of 19.0mm, famous ski resort of Gulmarg received snowfall of 20 cms and rainfall of 18.0mm while Banihal received 4 cms of snow and rainfall of 18.4mm.

“The roads especially Gurez, Sonamarg -Leh, Mughal road have already been closed; the fresh precipitation forced us close vital Srinagar-Jammu highway for traffic,” said an official of PCR Srinagar.

Meanwhile, reports emerging from Jammu said that Thanamandi-DKG-Surankote road has been closed due to snowfall. The road connects Rajouri and Poonch and has been closed for traffic. Heavy snowfall in the region had started last night which is still going on.

The only motor-able gate way to Kashmir region via Jawahar Tunnel has received 1 feet of snow, said an official of at Met Srinagar. “Weather is likely to improve tomorrow,” the official added.
