Three civilians and a CRPF man were injured in fresh protests which erupted in Sopore after Friday prayers.

Locals in two different areas of Sopore- Muslimpeer and Shalpora came out on streets after prayers to protest. But they were stopped by heavy contingent of state police and CRPF by means of teargas shelling and it took an ugly turn when angry protesters started pelting stones.

In the ding dong battles three civilians and one CRPF man are reported to have been injured.

Block Medical Officer Sopore, Dr Sayed Masood confirmed that four injured people were brought in the hospital.

While as in the South Kashmir’s Bonegam Shopian,  angry youth defied curfew orders and pelted stones on forces in Bonegam chowk before the Friday prayers which continued for a couple of hours during which police and CRPF used tear smoke shells. Later after the prayers the
protests spread up to Gagren area of the town. The clashes in Gagren were much severer and forces used dozens of tear gas shells which created havoc in the area.

A youth namely Tariq Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir resident of Gagren was injured by a shell.

Reportedly the CRPF are alleged for ransacking in the Bonegam area and beating every person coming their way.

The ‘Mutahida Majlis-e-Mashawrat’ (MMM) had called for protests after Friday prayers to press for the return of the mortal remains of Afzal Guru who was hanged and buried in Tihar jail Delhi on February 9. Administration has put in place strict restrictions across the valley to prevent the protests.
