Srinagar-Jammu Highway has been closed for traffic due to snowfall and rains that triggered mud slides in Panthal area, traffic police officials said on Monday.

They added that Border Roads Organization (BRO) has started clearance of snow from Banihal and Patnitop and are also clearing mud slides in Panthal.

Srinagar and other places in the valley received fresh snowfall and the weather office said more is expected in higher reaches in next 24 hours.

There has been heavy snowfall on the Zojila Pass that connects the valley with Ladakh region of the state.

Reports from south Kashmir also said there was heavy snowfall on Sunday night especially on the upper reaches.

 Heavy snowfall has also occurred in the Bannihal sector of the over 300-km long Srinagar-Jammu highway and authorities have temporarily stopped the movement of vehicles on the road.
