The upper reaches of the popular tourist resort received fresh snow, while intermittent rain and cloudy skies prevailed in lower areas. Temperatures in Gulmarg hovered around 10 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon, accompanied by rainfall in the lower reaches.

The Meteorological Department has attributed the prevailing weather conditions to a western disturbance, forecasting light to moderate rain at many places across Jammu and Kashmir, with snowfall over higher reaches, until October 15.

Thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and isolated hailstorms are also possible during this period, the department said, adding that daytime temperatures are likely to remain below normal.

Travellers and transporters have been advised to exercise caution while travelling through mountain passes and on roads at higher altitudes in view of the anticipated weather conditions.

Farmers have also been advised to store harvested apples, paddy and other agricultural produce safely to minimise potential losses from rainfall and strong winds.

The weather office has forecast generally dry conditions on October 16, although brief rain may occur at isolated places. Predominantly dry weather is expected across Jammu and Kashmir from October 17 to 24.
