The intense cold wave has decreased Saturday after many parts of Kashmir Valley and several areas in Pir Panchal region received fresh snowfall.
Severe cold wave sweeping the Valley was broken as the minimum temperatures rose above the freezing point, an official said.
He said that fresh snowfall occurred at many places of Kashmir, hilly areas of Jammu and on the higher reaches of Ladakh.
The MeT Office said that a spell of widespread light to moderate snowfall is likely to occur during January 6 to 7 evening.
The minimum temperature was minus 0.1 degrees Celsius in Srinagar while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.5 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 2.5 degrees.
Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 2.1 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius last night.
Leh recorded minus 18.3 degree Celsius as the minimum temperatures.
Jammu recorded a low of 7.3 degrees Celsius while Batote recorded minus 1.1, Banihal recorded 1.4, and Bhaderwah recorded minus 0.4 degree Celsius.
