SRINAGAR: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a notice to Nestlé India over allegations that insects or larvae were found in a packet of Maggi noodles, while also seeking explanations from KFC and Flipkart in separate food safety complaints, according to an NDTV Profit report.

The regulator’s action follows complaints circulated on social media and reflects a growing reliance on digital platforms to identify potential food safety concerns and trigger investigations.

According to the report, the FSSAI has asked Nestlé India to submit a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR), including batch-level quality checks, supplier details, measures taken to remove any affected products from the market and steps adopted to prevent a recurrence. The notice pertains to allegations that insects or larvae were discovered in a packet of Maggi noodles.

In a separate case, the food safety authority issued a notice to a KFC outlet in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, over alleged unhygienic conditions. The outlet has been asked to provide documentation relating to hygiene standards, food handling and storage practices, waste management systems, pest control measures and employee sanitation protocols, the report said.

The regulator has also sought responses from Flipkart and packaged food brand Open Secret after a consumer allegedly found insects in a dates product ordered through Flipkart’s quick-commerce platform. The companies have been asked to furnish internal quality control records and details of corrective actions taken to withdraw the product and prevent similar incidents.

The FSSAI clarified that the notices form part of a fact-finding process and do not establish wrongdoing by any of the companies at this stage. The firms have been directed to submit detailed responses and supporting documents before any further regulatory action is considered.
